During these next couple of weeks you are going to be a botanist (that is someone who studies plants). As every good scientist does, we will be documenting our findings through some really fun activities. Through these weeks and activities you will identify and describe parts of a sprouting seed or plant. Begin to learn about the functions of different parts of a plant. Identify characteristics that are the same or different across various seeds and plants. Identify some of the things a plant needs in order to grow: water, light, and time! Wow! *NEW Art Journaling - Playing with Paint to tell our Truth and Story (Ages 12 and up)Art, Music & PhotographyVisual art journaling is a fun, new way to journal your experiences and tell your story as you tap into your creativity. Combine this with some simple techniques for capturing thoughts and ideas and you have the making of your own personal art journal. We will use simple techniques with pens, watercolors, and other mediums to create a journal. You could even make your own journal in the Star Journal bookmaking class (AAM205A) and use that for a completely unique and personalized item. Your journal can be a sketchbook, repurposed book, or self-made book, using paper, paints or collages. It can include both text and images from photos, sketches and other sources -- the possibilities are endless. Your journal can be used for goal setting, journal spilling, exploring the past or future, or logging your travels. Join this four-session class and start journaling. This workshop is designed for everyone to have fun with paint and pens. We will focus on pen and ink, pencil and watercolor techniques and methods. You bring the anticipation and sense of adventure! Classes will be conducted by Zoom and you will be emailed the link. This is a LIVE class, which is recorded for your enjoyment and review. If you ever have to miss a class, you can always check back later to watch what you missed and practice at your own pace. The live format, allows for meeting so many people all over the world each week in my home. Participants will receive the ingredients to make your own bread before the class which is taught via Zoom!! This tasty treat will then be topped with hamburger and your favorite's such as lettuce, tomatoes, black olives, and more! Participants supply their own taco meat, seasoning and toppings. The family can enjoy cooking a traditional Indigenous meal together! Story telling with Elders is a wonderful opportunity to hear stories/songs told and recounted with Mr. Emery St John who is an enrolled member of the Crow Creek Lakota Tribe, Fort Thompson, S.D. His personal endeavors as a Lakota and helper to a well respect medicine man, Mr. Clifford Young bear will captivate and inspire any participants to appreciate the Lakota culture!Winter 2021

The class will then be shown how this branch is used to make two Indigenous medicines. 1.Tea, used to treat respiratory infections and influenza!! 2. Traditional pipe filler of the plains tribes. Fold, cut and glue to create your own unique artists book from a selection of paper, ephemera and card. You could also build your own cards, photos or postcards into the design. A selection of basic skills will be demonstrated to help you bring your ideas to life. No experience necessary. Classes are 90 minutes long with 30 minutes afterwards for open Q&A and working.
