    *NEW Poultry Class: Beginning Backyard and Small Flock Poultry

    The Beginning backyard and small flock poultry class will teach participants the best management practices for starting a backyard flock of chickens. The class will cover breed selection, starting baby chicks, nutrition, housing, biosecurity, health and care of hens as well as city ordinances and the selling of eggs. If you are considering raising chickens this class will help answer your questions. Presented by the University of Minnesota Extension; Colleen Carlson has served as the Ag Production Systems Extension Educator in Scott and Carver counties since 2016. Colleen teaches a number of poultry classes through UMN Extension and has raised a variety of chickens, ducks, turkey, geese and peafowl. Colleen is a 5th generation poultry keeper.

    Preplanning Your Funeral

    If you've ever had to plan a funeral for a loved one, you know there are many difficult decisions to make. Adam Nordin of Wright Funeral Home will speak on the planning and options such as burial, cremation, donation and alternatives to a traditional funeral. He will also cover service costs and Veteran and Social Security benefits for those who qualify. You will leave this class well informed on the latest funeral trends, the impact on the environment and future generations, and the importance of memorialization.

You will learn the basics of caring for chickens and how to overcome obstacles. This class is intended for those who have little or no experience raising chickens, but is open to anyone. Judy Hansen has raised chickens for over 10 years, is a Licensed Veterinary Technician; MN Grown Producer; registered with the MN Dept of Agriculture, and a MN certified poultry testing agent.
