Moorhead Community Education

Join us on July 18th from 1-7pm as you embark on a learning garden tour in Moorhead and Dilworth communities. Stops include a community garden, local resident's yards, a rose trial garden, plus a horticulture business. Each site will have a host to share information on the garden as you get a closer look at all these great gardens in your local community. Tour is held rain or shine. Addresses will be emailed closer to the tour date and the tour will officially start at an unspecified location for packet pickup if paper copies are needed. Cost is $10. Join us for a fun, exciting afternoon and evening of garden fun!

Create a resilient yard to sustain the Red River by making your own compost tumbler. In addition to building your own compost tumbler, this workshop includes a presentation to learn the basics of composting and how to construct various composting systems. Come prepared to carry home an empty 55-gallon compost tumbler. The barrel may be white or blue. Class fee includes all other supplies. Bring drill (corded or cordless) and 3/8” bit to class if you have them. Instructors will have several drills and bits for participants to share.

On day one, participants will hear a short presentation about the basics of water quality and the effects of stormwater runoff, sand and put a base coat on their barrel. The second day, participants will build and paint their rain barrel. Come prepared to bring home an empty 55-gallon barrel. Wear clothes you don't mind painting in and dress for the weather. Participants need a drill to install the rain barrel at home. Fee includes all other supplies.

Learn how to transform a section of your yard into a native garden that will attract pollinators. This workshop is designed for beginners and focuses on what constitutes a pollinator habitat, the importance of landscaping with native plants, and the process of installing a garden from start to finish. A select number of native plants will be discussed. Participants will leave with the beginning of their design plan and a pollinator-friendly kit to get started. This workshop will provide tools for creating a rain garden. You will discover how rain gardens work and why they can make an impact on storm-water management, water quality and the health of your community. Planning and planting resources will be provided.
