    Join us on Thursday July 24th from 12pm-7pm as you embark on a learning garden tour in local Clay County MN gardens. Stops include a local horticulture business, a cut flower farm, and at least 4 local residents gardens. Each site will have a host to share information on the garden as you get a closer look at all these great gardens in your local community and county. Tour is held rain or shine. Addresses will be emailed closer to the tour date and the tour will officially start at an unspecified location for packet pickup if paper copies are needed. Join us for a fun, exciting afternoon and evening of garden fun.

You’ll learn best practices for planting, soil preparation, and ongoing care, including watering, fertilizing, and staking. We’ll also cover how to cut dahlias for long-lasting arrangements, manage common pests and diseases, and properly overwinter tubers to ensure a successful growing season year after year. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your dahlia-growing skills, this class will provide the knowledge and confidence to grow healthy, beautiful dahlias in your own garden.

The day will include classroom learning about various topics such as; soil health, 2025 flower trends, foraging & cooking, native plant landscapes and growing medicinal herbs, along with much more! There will be local vendors, lunch and many opportunities for the gardening community to connect too!

  • Resilient Yard Series: Make Your Own Compost Tumbler Workshop

    Create a resilient yard to sustain the Red River by building a compost tumbler. Workshops include a presentation to learn the basics and benefits of composting. By tumbling this composter once a week, you could have a barrel of compost by the end of the season. Be ready to take home an empty 55-gallon barrel. The barrel may be white or blue. This workshop is hosted by River Keepers and Clay Soil & Water Conservation District.

    Create a resilient yard to sustain the Red River by building a rain barrel. This workshop includes a short presentation on water quality and stormwater runoff. Be ready to take home an empty 55-gallon barrel. Participants need a drill to install the rain barrel at home. Fee includes all other supplies. The barrel will be white or blue. This workshop is hosted by River Keepers and Clay Soil & Water Conservation District.
  • Resilient Yard Series: Make and Paint Rain Barrel Workshop

    Create a resilient yard to sustain the Red River by making and painting your own rain barrel during this two-day workshop. Participants must attend both days. On day one, participants will hear a short presentation about the basics of water quality and the effects of stormwater runoff, sand and put a base coat on their barrel. The second day, participants will build and paint their rain barrel. Be ready to take home an empty 55-gallon barrel. Wear clothes you don't mind painting in and dress for the weather. Participants need a drill to install the rain barrel at home. Fee includes all other supplies.

    Resilient Yard Series: Pollinator Gardening Workshop

    Learn how to transform a section of your yard into a native garden that will attract pollinators. This workshop is designed for beginners and focuses on what constitutes a pollinator habitat, the importance of landscaping with native plants, and the process of installing a garden from start to finish. A select number of native plants will be discussed. Participants will leave with the beginning of their design plan and a pollinator-friendly kit to get started. Workshop Day 2: This workshop is held outside at a pollinator garden in Moorhead. This workshop is designed for beginners and focuses on identifying native plants as well as the steps to planting your very own native garden. Participants will leave with the beginning of their native garden planting plan and a pollinator-friendly kit to get started. This workshop is hosted by Clay Soil & Water Conservation District
